Can we talk about meal prepping, here? One thing comes to mind: that old adage that goes something like, “if you fail to plan, then you plan to fail.” Your diet is just as important – if not more so – than the exercise, itself. Let’s face it – if you eat nothing but crap, no matter how much you exercise, you won’t see the results you want, amirite?
I’ll be honest for a moment – out of pure laziness, if I don’t get my butt in the kitchen every Sunday afternoon to mass prepare an onslaught of tasty food to individually section out in perfect little measured containers, I’d be a real mess. Furthermore, if I didn’t stalk creative ways to turn the foods I formerly loved (but cannot anymore due to the fact I don’t want clogged arteries and I rather like staying the size and shape I am right now) into HEALTHIER but still tasty versions of themselves… Well, I’d get so bored that I’d hurl myself right off the clean-and-healthy-eating bandwagon faster than you can say “cheese.” #truth
And, contrary to what my former self might argue, it’s not how much you eat – it’s what you eat. Healthier ingredients yield results. If I could only stress ONE THING about the dieting process, it would be to TAKE THE TIME to properly prepare your food. Find out how many calories your body needs by clicking here and divide that up into multiple portions throughout the day. Always start with a good breakfast – if you can eat oats, my version of overnight oats is FANTASTIC, and the sweetness completely kills any further cravings for candy that used to plague me during the day.
- 1/2 cup Quaker Old-Fashioned Oats
- 1/2 Unsweetened Cashew Milk
- 1 tsp Honey
- 1 tsp of Nutella on top
I stick them in the fridge on a Sunday afternoon, and by Monday morning they are ready to go! I separate/store them in small mason jars, and just take them on-the-go!
Another staple to my meal prep routine has become low-carb naan. I use it for everything – a base for personal pizzas, wraps, tacos, you name it. It’s unique flavor complements everything I accompany it with. Click here for the recipe and try it – you’ll thank me for introducing you to this versatile accoutrement.
Also? Avocados. I cannot live without them. They’re high in healthy fats and they are literally the “little black dress” to any dish you prepare. Mash them up and make guac, or toss a couple slices into your meal prep containers.
Finally? Dessert. Who doesn’t enjoy dessert!?!? At the recent Europa expo here in Dallas, I was introduced to one of the most inspiring people I’ve ever met. She had a beautiful display of “healthy” cakes, and dare I say they tasted better than Betty Crocker!? If you’re looking for a little dessert inspiration, check out PrepCakes. I not only bought some of hers, but she inspired me to try some recipe alterations of my own!
If you have any great ideas or suggestions, share them here! I’m always looking for new and tasty ways to liven up my food intake!!!
